Export to Quicken Dialog

The Export to Quicken Dialog allows you to send your estimated Budgets to Quicken, QuickBooks for DOS, Microsoft Money, CA Simply Money, or another check-writing and accounting systems.

To set up an export to Quicken (or another accounting or check-writing package which accepts the QIF format), choose File/Transfer/Export to Quicken.... The Export to Quicken Dialog will appear.

It is very important to decide on the answers to the questions in this dialog box before you build your Budgets.

Directory for Interface Files

Enter the drive and directory for the export file transfer, or press the button (labeled "Directory for Interface Files:") to choose from the standard directory selector dialog box. It should normally set to your Quicken directory, often C:\QUICKEN.

Quicken Interface (QIF) File

Enter the file name to import into Quicken, or click on the button (which also serves as a field label) to choose a file from the standard file-save-as dialog box. Usually, the file name with end with the extension .QIF to identify it as a Quicken Interface Format file.

Name for Job (Class)

In Quicken, this is the second part of Quicken's __1st__/__2nd__ breakdown. It is an important decision to make along with the question below. Usually, this is the Bid's name converted into a job or project's name. If you enter a blank, then no class will be sent if you choose the Budget/Job option below.

Category/Class (BudgetJob or Job/Budget)  Once you set this option and start using it, you should not change it since Quicken will then place the information in the wrong area. We strongly suggest you use the Budget/Job which is Quicken's Category/Class order. This will allow you to send over the budgets with or without a job (class). If you have one checkbook, then you will want to send over the Job (Class) to identify where the budgets will go. If you have a different checkbook for each job or project, then you will not want to add a class and change the above Class Name to a No. (Once you set this option and start using it, you should not change it since Quicken will then place the information in the wrong area. We suggest you answer Yes to Budget which is Quicken's Category).

Date Enter a date in Quicken's format; 12/30/95 and it will be placed on each check. You should enter a future date.

Transfer Items Click to transfer the items to Quicken to be place under Memo in Split Transaction. The first 30 items in each budget will go under Quicken's split memo fields with the dollar amounts. Since Quicken can only accept 31 items, the last estimating items will be added to make a final one. If you don't want the detail in Quicken, then leave the box blank.

Vendor's Name If you have a vendor attached to the first item in each budget (must be in item column A), then answering Yes by toggling the Enter key, will send that "Payee" to the check.

Click on the Export button when ready to export.
