House-Cleaning the Price Book

 

 

 

House-Cleaning provides an easy way to make sure you estimating software is running quickly, and using as little disk space as possible. House-Cleaning goes through each of the files in your Price Book, including saved Bids, and reclaims unused space, and rewrites the files in the most efficient order. After saving a Bid several times or making extensive Price Book changes, there will be unused space in the files which can be reclaimed, giving your hard disk more available space. Often, several megabytes of disk space can be saved!

 

Because House-Cleaning can take several minutes, it is only performed when you ask. Normally, you can run House-Cleaning from the menu: File | Transfer | House-Cleaning. When you ask for House-Cleaning, a message that explains the operation will appear, and you will be asked if you want to proceed with the operation. Click Yes to begin, or No if you do not want to House-Clean now.

 

You should perform House-Cleaning regularly, particularly if you frequently save large Bids. To help remind you to do House-Cleaning, EasyEst Estimating will ask you if you want to run House-Cleaning if it notices you have 8 megabytes or more of reclaimable space when you exit the program. (This check and question can be turned off from the Options/ Preferences dialog box, accessible from the Tools menu.)
