Restore from Back Up allows you to read the information stored in one or more Estimating Backup files back into your Bids or Price Book. You may only restore files made with (any version of) Estimating Back Up, either in the estimating system or from the Program Manager or Start Menu. You may restore any one file (such as just an individual Price Book, a single Bid, or all the Bids in one Price Book), or all the files from one disk or directory.

To get to the Restore From Back Up Dialog Box at any time in the program, select File/Transfer/Restore from Back Up... from the menu bar. You may also run Estimating Restore directly from the Estimating Program Group in the Windows Program Manager or the Estimating menu in the Windows 95 Start Menu, but you must use the Restore Dialog Box inside EasyEst Estimating to restore a single Bid. (For more information on restoring outside the estimating system, run the Instructions for Backup from the Estimating Program Group or Start Menu.)

The Restore From Back Up Dialog Box is much like the Back Up Dialog Box:

From: Select where the backup files are stored. When you change which option button is selected (A:, B: or Other:), EasyEst Estimating will automatically read the specified drive or directory, looking for backup files, and show them (but not other files) in the list box.

Restore: All Backup Files

Click on this option to restore all estimating backup files listed below. Each file will be confirmed before it is restored.

Restore: Selected Backup File:

To restore just one backup file from the list, choose Selected Backup File: and highlight the file you want to restore in the list box.

Restore (button) After you have filled out all the above information, press this button to restoring. Make sure to have the appropriate floppy disk in the drive before starting the backup.

Cancel (button) Cancels the Restore From Back Up Dialog Box without performing a restoration.

Help (button) Brings up this help message.

Before performing a restore, make sure you have plenty of free disk space on your hard disk where EasyEst Estimating is loaded. If you are restoring a Price Book, you will need room for another copy of all the files in the Price Book, which can vary from 1 MB to 14 MB! Bids are smaller, but still can take up considerable disk space. If you do not have enough disk space, an error will be reported during the restore process, and you will have to start the restoration again.

After you press the Restore button, a window will display the names of the individual backup files being decompressed into a temporary working directory/folder. (Don’t worry about their names.) Normally, this window will disappear automatically when the decompression is finished. However, if there is any error (such as insufficient disk space for the restored files), it will be shown in this window. After an error, the window will pause to allow you a chance to read the error message. Press any printable key to continue after reading the error message. If any error occurs during decompressing any files, the entire restore operation for all selected files is canceled. You may still be able to restore the files one-at-a-time by using the Restore from Back Up Dialog Box again.

After compression is complete, each file being restored will be confirmed with you, and moved into place. (You may answer Yes or No in the confirmation of each file, or answer Yes to All, which restores the rest of the files without confirmation. You may also press the Cancel button in the confirmation message box, which cancels the restoration of any further files.)

If you have restored the currently-loaded Bid, you will also be asked if you want to load the newly-restored copy of the Bid.
