The Tool Options Dialog Box will allow you to change several ways you interface with EasyEst Estimating. By changing these options, you will be able to customize the way you can work with EasyEst Estimating.

Each answer requires a click of the left mouse button within the box so an X appears which means "yes." When finished, click on OK. If you click on Cancel or click outside of the dialog box, any changes to your answers will be discarded.

For convenience, preferences are grouped by category: Item Selection, General, Start-Up, and Exit.

Sort P.B. Item List By:

Code

Description

The Item Selection window’s Price Book Division, Subdivision and Item lists may be sorted by Code or Description. If sorted by Code, the Code is displayed along with the Description. If sorted by Description, Descriptions are alphabetized, and Codes are not shown. If you are used to locating your Items by Code (i.e., Item numbers), sorting by Code will probably be helpful to you. (It is the initial setting.) If you prefer to locate your Items (and Divisions and Subdivisions) by Description, choose sort by Description.

Add New Bid Items at End of List

When you select Use to move Price Book Items to the Bid Item List, they can be put either before the currently-highlighted Bid Item, or at the end of the list. If you want the new Items placed at the end of the list, check this box. If this box is not checked, transferred Items will appear before the currently selected Bid Item, much like the Insert Record feature works.

Item Selection shows Misc. instead of Loc.

Item Selection windows (including Assembly Selection and Super Assembly Selection) allow you to specify either the Location or Misc. column value for all Items as they are transferred to the Workspace. Of course, individual Items may be changed in the Workspace or in the Bid. Because of space constraints in the Item Selection window, either the Location or the Misc. can be shown, but not both. Check this box if you would rather change the Misc. value instead of the Location for the Items. Note that unlike Locations, Misc. values are not stored with Assemblies as defaults in the Price Book.

Display Usage Hints

When you are very familiar EasyEst Estimating, you may elect to have the various tips, hints, and warnings turned off so you will be asked fewer questions. Please do this only after several months of thorough use.

Ask to Use When Leave Window

When you have gone to a view by using a list command, many times you will want to Use (pullback) a selection into the previous view. If you want to be asked to Use this selection when you leave the view, then click in to box so an X appears.

When Opening Bid, if

Always Total Items/

Turn Totaling Off/

Ask Before Totaling

Because totaling a large Bid can take some time, particularly on slower machines, EasyEst Estimating can be set to ask whether totaling should be turned off when loading a big Bid. You can specify what counts as a "big" Bid, in terms of number of Bid Items. If you have a slower computer, we suggest that you set the number of Items to 20. You may also determine if EasyEst Estimating is to ask before totaling, or just turn off totaling. If you have a fast machine, you can make it always total the Bid (regardless of the number of Items in the Bid). If the Bid size is smaller than the number of Items you select, it will always be totaled when it is loaded.

You may of course turn totaling on or off at any time after the Bid is loaded using the Bid Menu.

When Entering System:

Create new Bid/

Re-Open Last-Used Bid/

Select a Bid to Open

When entering system, you may have EasyEst Estimating create a empty new Bid for you (similar to what most Windows applications do), or, for convenience, re-load the Bid you were working on the last Bid you used. (The latter is the way EasyEst Estimating is configured if you don’t change it.)

Not sure? Choose Select a Bid to Open and the Open Bid Dialog Box will appear whenever EasyEst Estimating is started to let you select which Bid you want to work on today. (The Open Bid Dialog Box even has a New button which will allow you to start with an empty Bid.)

This is the voice message you hear (if you have a sound board installed) as EasyEst Estimating is loaded. If this option is not checked, you won’t hear the message.

Ask to Backup

If this preference is checked, EasyEst Estimating will give you the opportunity to back up your Bids and Price Books each time you leave the program. (You can always back up using File/Transfer/Back Up... from the menu bar, whether or not this preference is on.)

Check Reclaimable Disk Space

If this preference is checked, EasyEst Estimating will quickly approximate how much disk space can be reclaimed using House-Cleaning each time you leave the program. If 8 megabytes or more can be reclaimed, you will be asked if you want to run House-Cleaning now. (You can still, of course, run House-Cleaning using File | Transfer | House-Cleaning.)

If unchecked, EasyEst Estimating will not warn you if the Price Book files contain large amounts of reusable space, even if they grow to huge sizes! Unless you have a very slow computer or a very large hard disk, we recommend you keep this check enabled so you will not forget to House-Clean.
