Lesson 6: Using the Item Selection Window

Click on the first Item in the Bid, e.g., Sample Item. Remember it, because you are going to replace it with some 2x4 studs.

Click on the Select Items (from) Price Book button () on the left toolbar (called the View Bar, because it displays various windows or views of your data). The rem-37: Remodel - 37 Price Book is displayed. Take a minute or two to look at this view. First look at the Price Book Items box on the right hand side. Do you see the "Test item from bid to Price Book" Item you added in the previous lesson?

NOTE: When you add an Item to the Price Book, That Item is assigned a blank Code and is stored in Subdivision 0 of Division 0. You can later "move" that Item under the correct Subdivision by changing it’s Item number. EasyEst will automatically move the Item to it’s new position in the Price Book. Any Item number can be changed in the Item column as long as you have a unique number. Its best NOT to change Item numbers once you have Bids with Items in them, since they will reference the original Item number.

Continue to review the complete Price Book. It is built with Items (right-most column) put into groups called Subdivisions (center) put into Divisions (left-most column). As you can see each Division covers a broad area. Also note the Item Worksheet. This is where you transfer Items to before you bring them into your Bid. You can modify the Item here if you wish. Well, let’s see how it all works!

We are going to find "Wood Wall Framing, 2" X 4" * 2" X 4", 12"Oc, Up To 8' Tall"  in Division #10, called Wall Framing. Before you move to Wall Framing, be ready to watch the shifting of Subdivisions and Items. Now click on Wall Framing. The Subdivision and Item numbers now begin with #10 which is the Division number of Wall Framing.

Click on Wood Wall Framing, 2" x 4"  Studs in the Subdivision Column.

Click on the Item number 10.100100 Wood Wall Framing, 2" X 4" * 2" X 4", 12"Oc, Up To 8' Tall to highlight it.

Click on the Transfer button. The Item will be transferred down to the Item Worksheet. From the Item Worksheet you can modify the Item or move the Item to the Bid. Let’s change the quantity and then move it back to our Bid.

Click on the Quantity column next to our Item’s description and type 5, then press Enter.

There are two ways to move our Item back to the Bid Item List. The first way is to click on the Move Items to Bid button on the bottom left side of the Item Selection View. This will move the Item(s) back to the Bid Item List, while you stay in the Item Selection View. The second way is by clicking on the Done button on the bottom right side of the Item Selection View. This will move your Item(s) back to the Bid Item List and close the Item Selection View. Let’s use the second method now to move our Item back. Click on the Done button.

A Question dialog box will come up asking you, "Do you want to replace the current Bid Item (: Sample Item) with Item in Worksheet (10.100100 Wood Wall Framing, 2" X 4" * 2" X 4", 12"Oc, Up To 8' Tall) or add the Worksheet Item to the Bid?" Click on the Replace button. The system will now replace Sample Item with 2x4-8’ Studs.

NOTE: If you do not want to replace an Item, just click on the Add button when asked.

Finding Items in Item Selection

The next Item on our materials list is Plywood, 3/8". Since we are not sure where it is, we’ll use the Find button.

Click on the Select Items Price Book button on the left tool bar.

In the Item Selection View click on the Find box next to the Find button. The box should now become highlighted.

Type Plywood,3/8". you might have to click find again for the wall sheathing)

Click on the Find button. The Find command will highlight the next Item that contains Plywood, 3/8". The system will probably bring you to 6.410 Floor Sheathing * Plywood, 3/8" . This is not what we are looking for, so click on the Find button again. This time it should highlight  10.200100  Wall Sheathing * Plywood, 3/8".

Click on the Transfer button to transfer it down to the Item Worksheet.

Click on the Done Button.

Note: You will notice the Cost-Unit Raw is already entered for the Items you selected from the Price Book. On an actual Bid you will want to check these prices and update them for your area and experience.
