How to Select Items by Assembly

Super Assemblies makes Assemblies even more powerful by grouping them into larger, related systems. Super Assemblies can be used to quickly locate and select from a series of related Assemblies and the Items associated with those Assemblies.

The Super Assembly Selection mode of the Item Selection window allows you to select Items based on how they are to be used, not just where they are located in the Divisions and Subdivisions of the Price Book.

An Super Assembly must be built before it can be used to select Items. If you are using a pre-built Price Book, some Super Assemblies may already be built for you. Otherwise, you will have to build them yourself. (You can, of course, re-build existing Super Assemblies to fit your needs.)

Before using Super Assembly Selection, you should become familiar with Assembly Selection. Super Assembly Selection builds on the Assembly Selection mode of the Item Selection window.

Bringing up the Super Assembly Selection window:

To get to the Super Assembly Selection mode of the Item Selection window, choose "Select Items by Super Assembly" from the Bid menu. The Item Selection window will appear, with the title "Item Selection: Super Assembly Selection." If you are already in the Item Selection window, you can also get to Super Assembly Selection from the Select button’s popup menu.

Selecting an Super Assembly:

To begin Super Assembly Selection, enter the Code of an Super Assembly in the field to the right of the words "Select Super Assembly:". If you don’t know the Code, press the list button to the right of that field; a list of Super Assemblies will appear and you can select one from that list by highlighting it. To use it in the Super Assembly Selection window, press the Use key, F8, or press the Use button on the Toolbar. To leave the Super Assembly List open for future reference, don’t press the Use button or key - just click back on the Super Assembly Selection window. This will bring up the Super Assembly to be selected from, but leave the Super Assembly List window open (although it may be behind the Super Assembly Selection window).

Selecting Assemblies within the Super Assembly:

Once an Super Assembly is chosen, a list of Assemblies will appear in the Super Assembly list in the upper-left-hand corner of the Super Assembly Selection window. The other lists look like those found in the Assembly Selection, and in fact work much the same way. The only difference is now you can select multiple Assemblies at once.

There can be tag marks on some of the Super Assembly Assemblies, indicating that (unless you untag them) that their Items will be used when you hit the Transfer button. This is much like the "Assembly Items to be Transferred" list works.

Notice the new button beneath the Super Assembly list, marked "Tag Assembly" or "Untag Assembly." Use this button to mark (or un-mark) the Assemblies you want to work with in the Super Assembly. Like Items in a Assembly, Assemblies in an Super Assembly may not always be used.

The main difference is that an Super Assembly groups the Assemblies you see in the leftmost list box, now labeled "Super Assembly Assemblies."

Customizing Items in each Super Assembly Assembly:

Like Assembly Selection, you may change which Items are to be transferred for each Assembly. But unlike Assembly Selection, you can go to different (Super Assembly) Assemblies, and any customizations (differences in Items to be transferred) will be remembered. These changes will not be saved to the Price Book -- they are for selection of Bid Items. You may also change the Question, Quantity, Unit and Location for each Assembly in Super Assembly Selection, and your changes will again only apply to selection for the Bid. To change the Super Assembly in the Price Book, use the Super Assembly Builder.

Transferring the Super Assembly Items to the Item Worksheet:

When you are satisfied with your customizations of the Super Assembly and its Assemblies, press the Transfer button, and all the Items from all the tagged Assemblies will be sent to the Item Worksheet.

Any customizations you have made to the Super Assembly will remain until you go to a different Super Assembly, or close the Super Assembly Selection window. This way, you can easily select more than one related customization of the same Super Assembly.

You may also go to different Super Assemblies and mix their Items in the Worksheet.

At any time, you may press the "Move to Bid" button to move the Worksheet Items to the Bid. Or just press the "Done" button to close the window and move all the Items to the Bid.

Canceling Changes:

If instead you don’t want to use your changes after transferring them, press the Cancel button to leave the Super Assembly Selection window, or just go to a different Super Assembly by entering a different Super Assembly Code at the top of the window.

If you haven’t pressed the Transfer button, you can just "walk away" from the changes. Of course, if you have made any customizations to an Super Assembly or have Items in the Worksheet, you will be asked if you want to save these.
