Building Assemblies is a great way to save time and to eliminate forgotten Items when you want to transfer Items from your Price Book to your Bid.

Bringing up the Assembly Selection window:

To use the Assembly Builder, choose "Assembly Builder" from the Price Book menu. The Item Selection window will appear, with the title "Item Selection: Assembly Builder." If you are already in the Item Selection window, you can also get to the Assembly Builder by pressing the Build button, and choosing "Build Assembly" from the popup menu.

Adding a new Assembly

To add a new Assembly, click on the "Add New Comp." button in the lower-left-hand corner of the Item Selection window. Enter a Code (or short name, up to 8 letters or digits) for the Assembly in the "Build Assembly:" field. You will be asked to confirm that you want to add a new Assembly. In the field to the right of the Code field (and the list button), enter a Description for the new Assembly (up to 30 characters). To change which Items are associated with the Assembly, follow the instructions below.

Changing or Reviewing an existing Assembly

To edit or review an existing Assembly, click on the small icon to the right of the words "Build Assembly:" and a list of Assemblies will be displayed; click on the one you want and then press the Use key (F8) or click on the Use icon on the right side of the toolbar. The Assembly, including the Items in the Assembly will be displayed. (Shortcut: If you click back on the Assembly Selection window without pressing the Use key, the Assemblies List will remain open -- although possibly hidden beneath the Assembly Selection window -- for reference in the future.)

Adding Items to a Assembly

Adding Items to a Assembly is much like adding Items to the Item Worksheet in Item Selection: You click on a Division, Subdivision, and then an Item, and then press the Transfer button to copy the Item into the Assembly. You can also just change the Item Code directly in the Assembly Item List. It may be used more than once in the Assembly, if you like. Any changes you make to the Assembly will be saved when you leave the Assembly Builder window, or move to another Assembly.

Removing Items from a Assembly

Removing Items from a Assembly is also much like removing Items from the Item Worksheet in Item Selection. Using the Remove button’s popup menu, you may remove a single Item, all untagged Items, or all Items from the Assembly. You may also use the standard Delete Record command from the Edit menu, or the Delete Record icon on the main toolbar.

Testing your Assembly

To test you Assembly, go to the Assembly Selection window and try selecting Items with it, giving them Quantities, etc. If you find any problems you can easily go back to the Assembly Builder using the Build button. After you are finished testing, you may wish to remove all the testing Items from the Worksheet using the Remove button.

CAUTION: Be sure to check your Assembly for errors and omissions. Check that each Item in the Assembly has the correct Bid Item Unit and Conversion Factor so that they can be used together in this Assembly, and that you have not left any Items out of the Assembly.
